Niederhorn: Marvel – Experience – Enjoy

A funicular railway gives visitors a comfortable ride from Beatenbucht to Beatenberg. Here trippers can transfer to the aerial cableway. This goes straight up the Niederhorn, which lies at 1,950 m. above sea level. Once they arrive at the top, there is almost no limit to what visitors can do. Hiking and mountain trails stretch out for over 120 km and show the panorama over Lake Thun in all its glory.

The summer month offerings could hardly be more varied. Wildlife watching in the early morning, where you might see ibex, marmots and golden eagles in their natural habitat. On Friday and Saturday evenings, visitors can enjoy lovely sunsets followed by an evening meal thanks to the evening trips on offer.

Alpine orienteering between Niederhorn and the middle station at Vorsass offer a large amount of fun along with a challenge. To carry on the fun, you can hire a scooter. There is a pleasant yet quick route for the trip to Beatenberg.

Evening trips onto the Niederhorn and themed buffet in the Berghaus Niederhorn restaurant
What we have for gourmets. Every Friday and Saturday evening from the beginning of July to the end of September, you can experience the sunset on the Niederhorn thanks to the extended timetable. From 16.00 hours, you can travel at special rates up onto the Niederhorn or as far as the Vorsass middle station. The Berghaus Niederhorn also has tasty menus ready for you. Our trains then take you back to your starting point in Beatenberg or Beatenbucht. Last trip down into valley from the Niederhorn: 22.20 hours.

Our tip:
Stay overnight in the Berghaus Niederhorn and experience the dawning of the new day when you wake up. With an air of mystery, the sun rises slowly over the mountain peaks of the Bernese Oberland. Take advantage of the peace and quiet of a new day, before the first guests travel up the mountain on the Niederhorn Railway. With a bit of luck, early risers will encounter one or two ibex or maybe the odd chamois just a few hundred metres from the Berghaus Niederhorn. These confident, majestic animals are quite happy to let people observe and photograph them from a distance of just a few metres.
